Most people make their resolutions after the new year. They are going to lose weight, save more money, attend church, or find a new job. Back in 2003 I made a commitment to loose a significant amount of weight between Thanksgiving and Christmas - I know that sounds like an insane idea, but I figured if I could be disciplined during the season of cookies, cakes and candy then I could do it anytime. I was successful in that journey - so I am going to try it again.
Well six years have passed and that 20 lbs I lost has creeped back on with a few extras. So their are 25 days till Christmas and I have decided to give myself a Christmas present (a healthier lifestyle). So for the next 25 days (and hopefully longer), I am going to eat right, exercise, make time for my daily devotionals and do the things I keep promising myself I will get around to.
So why am I writing this in my blog for everyone to see - accountability! I can put it in my planner, set goals I want to attain, but if I shout it from my cyber-mountaintop then there are those who will hold me accountable.
So for the next 25 days all my friends, family and acquaintances have permission to hold me accountable. Ask me how I am doing? Confront me on my quiet time and Bible study. Tell me I am looking a little hefty around the beltline and my double chin is sprouting offspring. On Christmas morning I plan to wake up 15 lbs. lighter than I am today, but more than that I am going to improve my daily walk with God and enjoin all the blessings that will follow.
When Tina was pregnant with Erika I got up to 174 pounds and saw a picture someone at church took of us. I looked like a pig! When my clothes start getting tight I eat less. Maybe I am cheap (okay, I am cheap) but I refuse to buy a new wardrobe just because I am getting too big for my breeches.
ReplyDeleteAt work I am known for my peanut butter sandwiches. I keep a big jar in my locker and bring 2 slices of bread and some fruit for lunch. I slather both pieces of bread with peanut butter (about 1/4 inch on each piece!) Benefits: 1. It's cheap (did I mention that I am cheap?) 2. It fills me up. 3.I don't have to wait in line at a restaurant and have to eat every bit of the oversized portions to make sure I get my money's worth (remember your mother's warning: "Take all you want, but eat ALL you take!")4. I can look at myself in the mirror and not see a pregnant man looking back at me! 5. I don't have to go to the store and spend money on bigger clothes that I have to grow into to feel "comfortable." 6. I am healthier, and can do things guys 20-30 years younger can't.
Good luck on reaching your goal!
